aluminum boat trailer vs galvanized
In general, aluminum boat trailers are going to cost more than galvanized steel boat trailers. the primary reason for this is that aluminum is simply more expensive than steel. it even remains more expensive than steel despite the process of hot-dip galvanization.. When buying a boat, they give you options and i always assumed aluminum is the way to go, but often a painted and galvanized trailer costs more and comes with boat/trailer packages.. Couple of years back sold boat on galv trailer. trailer was 19 years old. rock solid after all that time. only a couple of small areas of surface rust, easily treated. new galv trailer,4 years old, already in worse condition than 19 year old one, despite carefull washing so there is galv and galv..
aluminum boat trailer vs galvanized Trailers, aluminum vs galvanized discussion in 'boat yard basics' started by firecat1981, jan 9, 2011. page 1 of 2 1 2 next > jan 9, 2011 #1 if you sink your trailer to float your boat and you fish salt, then an aluminum trailer is probably your best choice. but if you set your trailer up properly, only the tires get salty,. You have a light boat. you can save $$$ on a good galvanized vs a good aluminum. aluminum trailers are lighter, not weaker (unless you buy a crappy one). most of us with aluminum have heavy boats and we don't want the added weight from pulling galvanized..
